Our Ontario LTD clients are brave.

At Mulqueen Disability Law we respect and acknowledge our clients’ courage in living with their illnesses and for taking the first step to contact us to help them in pursuing the benefits they are entitled to. It is important to us that our clients feel heard, understood and empowered. We never take our clients’ trust in us for granted.

Our clients have cognitively-demanding occupations.

Mulqueen Disability Law has helped many different types of professionals working in education, law, government, healthcare, finance, and technology. Our clients are typically middle to high-earners (earning at least $90,000 per year). Their occupations require a high level of cognitive and psychological function. They may have LTD benefits through their employer’s or their professional association’s group benefit policy or through their own private/individual Long Term Disability policies. Some of our past and current clients include:

  • IT Professionals
  • Veterinarians
  • Accountants
  • Consultants
  • Engineers
  • Dentists
  • Lawyers

Our clients have invisible disabilities.

Our clients come to us because they are struggling to prove to their insurance company that they are disabled. Insurance companies are trained to look for objective evidence of disability, but for some invisible disabilities, no such evidence exists.

Most of our clients suffer with mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. For some, mental illness is their primary disabling condition. For others, mental illness is secondary to some other serious condition such as chronic pain, chronic fatigue, concussion, Long COVID, neurological or immunological and other invisible conditions.

Often the denial of an LTD claim will trigger a new mental illness or aggravate an existing mental illness such as anxiety and depression. The denial of their LTD claim means that they are without an income to meet their living expenses and fund treatment which causes additional stress and delay their recovery. LTD denials also cause our clients to feel frustrated, not believed, and hopeless. Mulqueen Disability Law understands that time is of the essence and the sooner our clients’ LTD disputes are resolved the sooner our clients will be able to focus on their recovery.

Mulqueen Disability Law advocates for clients with multi-faceted, interconnected disabling conditions, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Panic
  • Addiction
  • Burnout
  • PTSD
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Post-COVID Conditions
  • Chronic Pain Syndrome
  • Post-COVID Conditions
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
  • Post-Concussive Syndrome
  • Immunological Conditions
  • Neurological Conditions
  • Post-Cancer Treatment
  • Lyme Disease
  • Endometriosis
  • Migraines
  • Undiagnosed Symptoms

Our clients struggle with complex, multi-faceted medical conditions.

Mulqueen Disability Law has extensive experience helping clients with complex combinations of symptoms and medical conditions.  Sometimes their conditions are undiagnosed, despite investigations and consultations with various doctors and specialists.

Insurance companies may fail to consider the interplay between physical symptoms and psychological symptoms. When each individual condition is assessed separately, the insurance company may incorrectly find that none of the conditions on their own prevents our client from working and deny the claim. However, in reality, the cumulative effect of multiple conditions may be what makes working impossible.

Insurance companies often rely on non-medical evidence of functionality to deny claims. They may rely on our client’s ability to care for their children, drive a car, or grocery shop as evidence that they are able to work. They may ignore our client’s subjective reports of symptoms entirely. The will often rely on the opinions of their own internal medical consultants who have never met our client and have only reviewed their medical records and draw conclusions that run counter to the opinions of our clients’ own treating doctors and specialists.

Our clients deserve accommodating, trauma-informed services.

Mulqueen Disability Law is committed to shielding our clients from unnecessary stress and trauma response in their litigation. We believe that by retaining us, our clients can focus on their own health and recovery while we take on their dispute with the insurance company.

We are not mental healthcare providers, but Mulqueen Disability Law is a certified Trauma Informed Service Provider.  We are also trained in Mental Health First Aid. Our clients can feel safe contacting us and sharing the details of their disability, knowing our entire team is trauma-informed certified and committed to not causing our clients any additional distress.

Our clients may struggle to leave their home, and may be overwhelmed by the thought of having to attend our offices in person. Since 2016, we have served clients virtually, via telephone and video meetings. We continually adapt and adopt new technologies to improve how we work and how we serve our clients. We also offer flexible scheduling and we understand when clients need to cancel or reschedule meetings to attend to their own needs. We are dedicated to accommodating a wide range of disabilities, including mental illness.

Our clients benefit from our unique insight & experience.

For more than 20 years (since before many of these conditions were widely-known by name), Courtney Mulqueen has been litigating disability insurance claims for invisible conditions. She provides her clients with the competitive advantage of valuable “insider” insight and perspectives gained from having defended LTD claims for invisible conditions, early in her career.

Mulqueen Disability Law understands what strategies are necessary to prove that our clients’ conditions are severe and impact functioning to the extent that they are unable to perform their own occupation or any occupations. We also know how to hold insurance companies accountable for the financial and emotional distress caused when they deny our clients’ LTD claims in bad faith.
