Markham & Toronto LTD Lawyers Suing Insurance Companies

At Mulqueen Disability Law, we know insurance companies from the inside out – literally.

Our founding partner, Courtney Mulqueen, started her legal career as a lawyer working for the insurance companies that we now sue. She leverages her experience defending long-term disability (LTD) and life insurance claims at Canada Life and Manulife/OTIP to provide clients with valuable insights and perspectives and help resolve their cases.

Suing insurance companies across Ontario

There are several Life and Health Insurance Companies in Canada that provide Long-Term Disability, Critical Illness and Life Insurance coverage under Employee/Association Group Benefit Policies and Plans and under Private/Individual Policies. At Mulqueen Disability Law, we’ve sued all of them, more times than we can count.

They owe you. Let’s make them pay.

If you have insurance with one of the following insurance companies and they have denied or terminated your benefits, we encourage you to contact us right away:

  • Great-West Life
  • Manulife
  • Public Service Management Insurance Plan (PSMIP)
  • Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP)
  • Teacher Life
  • Desjardins
  • RBC
  • Industrial Alliance
  • The Cooperators
  • Equitable Life
  • Canada Life
  • Blue Cross
  • Empire Life
  • Cigna/LINA
  • London Life
  • SSQ

Time is not on your side: deadlines for suing LTD insurance companies

If your insurance company has denied your claim for long-term disability benefits, your financial situation and mental health could be at serious risk. Time is not on your side, as every day that passes is another day without an income. As it will take some time to resolve your case, there is no time to waste.

There is a two-year limitation period for commencing court actions in Ontario (other provinces may have different limitation periods). It is safest to assume that the limitation period starts to run from the date the insurance company first denied or terminated your claim or the date that benefits stopped or should have started if they had approved your claim.

If you are concerned that you are now beyond the two-year limitation period for starting a court action, contact us immediately to determine if there is still something that can be done. This is a complex assessment that takes a number of factors into consideration and is not an easy determination to make. If there is a way to proceed and the potential to be successful, we will do our best to find it.

With over 20 years of experience litigating LTD cases, Courtney Mulqueen knows the nuances of how each of the insurance companies handles their claims, appeals, and their cases in litigation. She knows who their lawyers are and who their representatives (the person at the insurance company who instructs their lawyer) are. She knows what information and what arguments are going to be most persuasive. She even knows which negotiation strategies will be most effective with which insurance company. That’s powerful knowledge.
